A message from Joel Merry

I want to officially welcome you to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office official website. It is the beginning of a new term and the challenges before us are clear. As a county, a State, and a Nation, we are facing some of the toughest economic times we have seen for decades. Governments at all levels are being asked to do more with less in order to make ends meet, and the reductions in tax revenues become evident. Public safety is not immune from these cutbacks, but the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department is committed to keeping our communities safe and protected.

As your newly elected Sheriff, it is my commitment to you that the Sheriff’s Office will meet these challenges head on. I will work with the County Commissioners to ensure that no matter how difficult things get, the safety of our communities will not be compromised.

I am pleased to be a part of a new administration that will move the agency beyond the problems that have plagued it in the past. With a clear vision and the direction provided through a review of the department by the Maine Chief’s of Police Association, I am proud to say we are on our way to becoming one of the State’s finest county law enforcement agencies. Never before has this agency been bettered prepared, better organized and more motivated to meet the challenges before it.

The essential goals of the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Office are to provide good, fundamental police work in protecting the public. We commit to protect our most vulnerable citizens – our children and the elderly. We will work closely and partner with organizations and agencies that provide protective services and support for victims. We will strive to make a difference through prevention, and we will remain close to our communities.

As we face the significant challenges set before us, I am confident we will overcome them together. The dedicated men and women of your Sheriff’s Office are professionals committed to providing excellent service and enhancing the quality of life in Sagadahoc County.
